BARF diet: experience of a family of premium tasters

We introduce you to the family of Beka Barfera, barbers, perrinutrists and premium tasters from YowUp! From the beginning. They are Beka Labradora, 5 years old, Bamboo Golden Retriever, 14 months old; and her humans, Javi and María.

We met them at Instagram and it was BARFmor at first sight 😊 They are BARF menu artists, super cool and very nutritious! During these years, they have shared their experience with the BARF diet (food for dogs and cats based on raw and fresh foods) and everything that our yogurts have provided them in nutrition and palatability. You want to know more? Don't miss the interview we did with his human, María 👇

How would you define, in your words, the BARF diet?

It is the food currently available that is closest to what my dogs would eat without human intervention, with the understanding that it is a simple definition to which a more extensive and in-depth explanation would have to be added.

When did you start?

We started the BARF diet 3 years ago, but I wish we had incorporated it sooner. All of our previous dogs would have enjoyed all its benefits and enjoyed it as much as Beka and Bambú do.

Can I supplement feed with the BARF diet?

You can have a mixed diet, as long as you separate the BARF and the feed into different doses. Never mix diets in the same feeding and there should be a 12 hour difference between one feeding and the next. I have to admit that I am not a big fan of the mixed one. If you feed them exclusively with BARF you take advantage of 100% of its benefits, but everything is very respectable.

What are some of the nutritional benefits that BARF menus have given you the most?

Benefits, ufffff…. If I start, I won't finish! I'll try to make a quick summary.

Beka is a dog that was adopted with a multitude of problems, both physical and mental, and who was constantly at the UAB Veterinary Clinic Hospital with quite serious pathologies and with pharmacological treatments, control visits and vaccinations. Incredible true! By introducing the BARF diet, many of the symptoms have disappeared. And not even the veterinarians themselves believe it. Complete disappearance of allergies, urine infections due to her double vaginal fold have disappeared - no intervention is necessary - the neuronal problems causing head bobbing have disappeared, muscle recovery even in her paw with lack of mobility, incredible fur and an extraordinary increase in activity that It doesn't seem like he has those problems with his right hind leg.

Bamboo, 14 months old, is having incredible growth, his fur has a brutal shine. The puppies always have a little problem or another with their feces and other things and luckily Bambú has not needed veterinary attention and every time we take him for his check-ups they hallucinate.

What role do YowUp! yogurts play? on your menus?

They have a very diverse role, but mainly at a nutritional level they provide benefits in their intake and help us in the creative part of the design of our dishes.

What is your opinion on natural, chicken and salmon yogurt?

We are delighted, since in addition to providing health benefits and being totally compatible with the BARF diet, we can also take them on our excursions. The format is very practical, something very necessary on routes.

From what age can the BARF diet be implemented?

Bamboo started at 4 months, but in theory after weaning it could begin to be introduced. We were a little slower in introducing him and we started at 4 months and his adaptation was fantastic!
